Trujillo is located east of the capital of the province of Cáceres (Extremadura) on a granite hill overlooking the plain that surrounds it. Some of the most important conquistadors of the new world were born in this town. The bronze equestrian statue of Pizarro presides over the Plaza Mayor and the village holds the Pizarro house-museum in a Medieval house of the 15th century. The Plaza Mayor is surrounded by beautiful arcades. On the outskirts of town there are remains of its Moorish walls and the towers of Santa Maria Maggiore and Santiago.
