Where Stories Find Their Place
Spain Film Commission is working on the development of Film Data España, a digital and interactive platform that will connect audiovisual productions with their filming locations in Spain and make that information a more accessible, navigable, and useful resource for the industry, film commissions, and regional governments.
This project is funded by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, through the Secretariat of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (SEDIA), as part of the España Hub Audiovisual initiative.
What is Film Data España?
Film Data España was created to gather, organize, and geolocate information about audiovisual productions and filming locations within a shared platform.
The goal is not only to know where a movie or TV series was filmed, but also to connect that information and transform it into useful knowledge for various stakeholders in the audiovisual ecosystem.
The project is currently in the development phase of its first pilot. This initial version will allow us to validate the model, test the user experience, and lay the groundwork for its future evolution.
From Scattered Information to Connected Knowledge
The project stems from a specific need: information about film productions and shooting locations can be scattered across different stakeholders and regions. Film Data España aims to bring this information together and make it easier to access, explore, and reuse.
The pilot project uses a geolocated database and an interactive map that links productions and locations. It includes information sheets and search tools designed to allow users to explore the content in a simple and intuitive way.

Building on this common foundation, Film Data España can also open up new opportunities for cultural promotion and screen tourism, without losing sight of its primary purpose as a tool for knowledge and connection within the audiovisual ecosystem.
Technology in the Service of Knowledge
Technology is a means of making information more accessible and useful. Film Data España incorporates digital tools that allow users to organize, correlate, and explore location data more intuitively, including natural language search capabilities.
The pilot is also being designed with an architecture that is ready for future connections with other digital environments. This first phase does not involve operational integration with streaming platforms; its goal is to validate the model and build a solid foundation for potential future developments.
A project in progress
Film Data España está dando sus primeros pasos. Spain Film Commission trabaja junto a PLIA, responsable del desarrollo tecnológico del piloto, en la arquitectura de datos, la experiencia de usuario, el mapa interactivo, las herramientas de búsqueda y el modelo colaborativo de gestión de información.
El piloto no pretende cubrir desde el inicio el conjunto de producciones rodadas en España, sino demostrar el funcionamiento del modelo sobre un conjunto representativo de datos.Los resultados de esta etapa servirán para validar la propuesta y orientar sus siguientes fases de evolución.
