One of the most peculiar and unknown monuments of eighteenth-century Salamanca. As part of the structures attached to the Convent of Carmen Calzado de San Andrés, known as the “Escorial of Salamanca” due to its large size and harsh architectural style, we find the Pozo de Nieve, an amazing construction in which our ancestors stored and preserved the snow that they brought on mules from the mountains of France and Béjar to turn it into ice, which they later used to make ice cream or sorbets, as a preservative or for therapeutic purposes. We will find a spectacular well over seven meters deep covered by a slate vault. But not only that, we will also be able to admire part of the old medieval wall of Salamanca, the stables and brigades of the convent, part of the northeast tower of the complex … And above all, the mysterious underground galleries, of uncertain origin and function, that submerge the visitor in the unknown from the depths of the earth.
