Monfragüe is located approximately in the center of the province of Cáceres, in the triangle formed by the famous cities of Plasencia, Cáceres and Trujillo. Its backbone is provided by the Tagus River as it passes through soft mountains surrounded by extensive meadows. Monfragüe, with 18,396 hectares, was the first protected area of Extremadura. Since its declaration as a protected area until today, Monfragüe has been consolidated as a sanctuary for bird watching.
