Salina Palace

(Salamanca)

The Salina Palace was built by Don Rodrigo de Messía, Lord of La Guardia, who was married to Doña Mayor de Fonseca and Toledo. Although most of the properties of the marriage were inherited by the eldest son, Doña Mayor wanted to bequeath to his second son, Juan Alonso de Fonseca, this palace. It was built as a manor house, although it was also a deposit for salt, hence the name “Salina”. Today it hosts the headquarters of the Provincial Council. The facade, plateresque style and large arcades, is decorated with medallions. In the courtyard there is a gallery held by tormented characters, with great expression and realism.
