Murallas de Segovia.Puerta de San Andrés y Puerta de Santigo

(Segovia)

THE WALLS The ring of walls around the city begins and ends at the Alcázar with a perimeter of 3,000 metres. It is made of limestone masonry, partly set on granite ashlars. Memorial stones from the Roman necropolis were also used in the construction. It used to possess five gates: Santiago, San Cebrián, San Juan, San Martín and San Andrés. Three of them are preserved today: Santiago and San Cebrián, on the North side and San Andrés, on the South. There were also some small gates or shutters: the Alcázar, la Fuente Cercada [the enclosed fountain], Picado or San Matías, San Juan, El Consuelo [the solace], La Luna [the moon], El Sol [the sun], and El Obispo [the Bishop]. Nowadays, El Consuelo and San Juan gates remain and El Sol and La Luna have been reconstructed. SAN ANDRES GATE (Informative Space of the City Walls) On the inner rooms of the Door of San Andres, on the old Guard Room, the visitor can get into the Informative Space of the City Walls where, through different panels, the history of the medieval walls is written.
