Muralla Romana de Lugo

(Lugo)

Lugo’s Roman walls surround the historical center of the city of Lugo (Galicia). The ancient Roman town of Lucus Augusti, founded by Paulo Fabius Maximus on behalf of Emperor Augustus in 13 BC, was equipped with a wall of defense that has endured, with few reforms, to the present. The wall, with a length of 2,266 meters, is topped by 85 massive towers. It defines the historical center of the Galician city and has gone from being an obstacle for its development and growth to being integrated into the urban structure and source of touristic wealth.
