Motilla del Azuer

(Ciudad Real)

The visitable site of the Motilla del Azuer was a prehistoric settlement from the Bronze Age, located 14 km east of the municipality of Daimiel (C. Real). The archaeological sites that are known with the toponym of “motillas” represent one of the most singular types of prehistoric settlement of the Iberian Peninsula. Occupy the region of La Mancha during the Bronze Age between 2,200 and 1,500 a. C., in the case of artificial mounds, between 4 to 10 meters. of height, result of the destruction of a fortification of central plant with several concentric walled lines. Its distribution in the La Mancha plain, with equidistances of 4 to 5 km, affects the fertile plain of the rivers and the depressed areas where, until recently, there were frequent lagoons and marshy areas.
