The farmhouse preserves remains of buildings from the late 13th and early 14th centuries, making it one of the oldest farmhouses in town. Until 1377, it was known by the name of Mas Oller, the date when Arnal Sayol bought it, which gave it the name of Mas Sayol de Munt. In 1625 it was acquired by Pere de Magarola, Bishop of Eine, Vic and Lleida, who alleged it to his nephew, Pedro de Magarola, being at this time Can Magarola one of the most important houses in the town. In 1745 the Marquis of Bárcena inherited it by contracting nuptials with the daughter of Francisco Magarola, which is why it is also called the Bárcena house.
