The first urban nucleus that was formed in Montgat was that of San Juan, initially known as Montgat del Pescado and later as the Old Town. It was a place where, since the seventeenth century, there were some fishermen’s huts and that, with the construction of the church in the nineteenth century, began to be structured as a residential neighborhood. With the arrival of the railroad, in 1848, some summer houses began to be built, a phenomenon that will increase throughout the 20th century.
