It is one of the emblematic places of Alcalá de Henares in the historic quarter, rectangular in shape and its north and west sides are colonnaded. At present, the Plaza de Cervantes has 72 free-standing vertical supports: 16 are columns and 56 are stone pillars. In the centre of the square are promenades and gardens, as well as the statue of Miguel de Cervantes (sculpted by Carlo Nicoli and inaugurated on 9 October 1879) and the Quiosco de la Música (designed by Martín Pastells and built in 1898).
