Declared a Historic-Artistic Site, the abandoned village of Granadilla, of feudal origin with military and defensive character, founded by Fernando II de León in 1170, is considered as the third great walled Spanish site, by preserving intact the greater part of its Wall and preserves houses and streets in perfect condition, thanks to the work of rehabilitation, although we can also go for a walk around the areas which are still in ruins. Evacuated after being declared floodable after the construction of Gabriel y Galan Reservoir, it is settled on a hill as a kind of peninsula, being a strategic step in the ancient Silver Route in the direction of Las Hurdes.
