The Atlantic Botanical Garden of Gijón (Gijón, Asturias) is situated two kilometres away from town centre and it has been the first one of its kind in northwestern Spain, as well as the only one in Asturias, with a total area of more than 150.000 square meters, although it is planned to grow up to 250.000 square meters. There are more than 30.000 different plants from 2.000 different species. The garden is divided in four specific areas: Cantabrian environment, vegetal factory, historical garden of La Isla -which is 150 years old- and the atlantic itinerary. It also includes the Natural Monument of la Carbayeda (oak grove) de El Tragamón, an spectacular forest with 400 years old trees.
