Santa María del Naranco

(Asturias)

Santa María del Naranco is a Roman Catholic Asturian pre-Romanesque palace on the slope of Mount Naranco, situated four kilometres from Oviedo (Asturias). Ramiro I of Asturias ordered it to be built in the old kingdom of Asturias capital as a royal palace; and it was completed in 848. It was converted into a church at the end of the 13th century. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 1985.
