The Retiro Park, popularly known as El Retiro, is an 118 acres (1.18 million m²) park located in Madrid. It is one of the most significant places in the Spanish capital. Highlights include the French-style parterre, the Great Pond, the Rías and artificial lakes, the Campo Grande where we find the Velázquez and Crystal Palaces, the Cecilio Rodriguez Gardens and the Rose Garden, characterized by its cut cypress, boxwood hedges and pergolas; the Planteles Gardens, organized in squares marked by hedges, and the Forest of Remembrance.
