It stands on the River Tormes. This bridge in Salamanca (Castile and Leon) was built in the 1st Century. The passage of time and the numerous river floods damaged part of the bridge. In the 17th century Philip IV ordered the rehabilitation of the damaged section. The solid bridge is part of the Vía de la Plata, one of the three Roman roads that linked Emerita Augusta (Merida) with Cesar Augusta (Astorga). From it one can see a magnificent view of the cathedral and the riverbanks of the Tormes.
