The heart of the city of Salamanca (Castile and Leon). It is a typical Spanish monumental center, where Baroque art reached unparalleled heights. The construction started in 1729 and was not completed until 1755. It consists of 88 porticos of round arches held by strong pillars, the leans of the arches are decorated with medallions that frame portraits of kings, great captains and intellectuals. The monument houses the City Council, which corresponds with five of these porticos, and a large clock marks a key meeting point for Salamanca’s inhabitants.
