Promenade of the English

(Barcelona)

In the mid-19th century Caldetes was one of the most traditional summer destinations for the Barcelona bourgeoisie. From 1883, when the second Marquis of Comillas built his tower, the golden age of Caldes began, and many other wealthy families built their villas on the beach. From 1917 the urbanization of the Paseo de los Ingleses and the famous Colón casino began. Witness to that era of splendor are some of the Modernista and Noucentista chalets that have survived to this day, most of them built between 1915 and 1920.
